What is important to notice in the yacht's listing?

First, except the price of course, you have to look at the year it was built in, yacht's condition and possible re-fits. Engine hours, service records history for the engines, generator, electrical equipment onboard and safety equipment onboard. You may also want to look at if the VAT was paid or not and if this yacht is listed with a central agent or is it an open market.

Are yacht viewings in person important?

Yes, they are very important. It allows you to feel the space and fully imagine your time on board with family and friends. Pictures and video may not be enough to see if the yacht is matching your lifestyle. Especially with smaller yachts, you may want to see if the side decks are big enough to walk around or if the cabins are comfortable. If you are interested in the yacht, always ask to take the yacht for a sea trial.

How do I list my yacht for charter?

As long as the yacht is registered as a commercial vessel and complies with the safety regulations and technical requirements for yacht charters you can approach any charter agency. SH Prestige yachts can help you with registering your yacht for charter as well as with yacht charter management.

Can I still use my yacht, even if it is listed for charter?

Yes, however whenever you are onboard you need to have a charter agreement contract as any other charter guest and you have to pay for the charter. Including fuel, berth cost, food and drinks of course.

Can chartering damage the yacht?

This depends on the captain, crew and management company. If the yacht is looked after well, having charters can push the crew to always keep the yacht in top condition. However, you still have to keep in mind that you will be putting more hours on the engines and generators.

How long is the charter season in the Mediterranean?

Charter season in the Med usually starts in May and lasts until the middle of October. The busiest months are July and August, but it really depends on the type of the yacht and what it offers on board. For example yachts that are offering a large selection of water toys charter better. As the main yachting season in the Med is from May until October, some may think management is only necessary for those months. However we recommend yearly management because the winter period is the perfect time to organise repairs and getting the yacht ready for a new season. There is always something to fix after a busy charter season.
